His grandson Andrew has driven the business yet another direction, incorporating shrubs, trees, hedging and much more. Therefore, Dundonald Nurseries is a horticulturists dream with 95% of stock grown on site. Additionally, on site is the wonderful Secret Garden restaurant. Capable of seating 125 people and surrounded by old beams and a huge fireplace it’s an ideal place to get a bite to eat.
Hillmount Centre, Castlereagh
Hillmount Centre is one of Northern Ireland’s Largest nurseries. Customers are offered a perfect haven nestled in amongst the scenic Castlereagh Hills. Additionally, it can trace its roots back to the Second World War when Hill Mercer established a business growing much needed vegetables for the local markets. Most noteworthy is their Gardeners’ Rest Cafe, which avails of views over the beautiful Castlereagh Hills.
Dobbies of Lisburn was founded in 1865 by James Dobbie. After being awarded the Royal Warrant for Gardeners and Nurserymen, the company expanded into a seed catalogue business, where it built up a customer base of 50,000 over the following century.
