About
Lisburn Cathedral in 2023 celebrates 400 years of Christian worship on the Cathedral site, the present building dating from the 1720s. Cathedral status was awarded by King Charles II in 1663. The Cathedral has links with the Huguenots (French protestants escaping persecution) whose leader Louis Cromellon was given the title "Overseer of the Royal Linen Manufacture in Ireland by King William III". The Cathedral also has links with the 1798 United Irishmen, the 1920 murder of the mayor of Cork, the American War of Independence and the Siege of Delhi
