We are pleased to invite you to the preview of two new exhibitions: ‘A Painter’s Vision’ by Barbara Ellison and ‘Figurative and Other Works’ by Robert Ellison at ISLAND Arts Centre on Wednesday 24 May.  The exhibitions will run from 25 May 2023 to 24 June 2023.

About the exhibitions:

‘A Painter’s Vision’ by Barbara Ellison

Barbara Ellison BA, ATD studied at Belfast College of Art and became a full time painter after retiring from Stranmillis University College. She experiments constantly, exploiting random effects while underpinning her work with strong draughtmanship. She uses line and colour intuitively to create an artwork which contains logic, coherence and a life of its own, while expressing a very personal response to landscape, still life, and figures.

Barbara is a member of the Watercolour Society of Ireland, the Ulster Watercolour Society, and a Past President of the Ulster Society of Women Artists. She has exhibited widely and is a multiple award winner.

’Figurative and Other Works’ by Robert Ellison

The current main focus of Robert Ellison’s artwork is figurative painting, including the portrayal of human interaction. Robert’s expressive use of colour, texture and line distorts reality to an extent calculated to engage, intensify and reward the viewer’s attention. He finds inspiration in unusual aspects of the human figure, landscapes and man made or natural objects.

Robert has exhibited widely both locally and abroad, including a large contribution to a group show in a Manhattan gallery in 2017, and several solo exhibitions in the Island Arts Centre. His work has attracted a significant number of awards, not least when his still life took the first, second, third, and fourth places in their category of the American Art Awards (2016).
