ABOUT 206 (ULSTER) BATTERY

206 (Ulster) Battery was formed in 1967 as part of 102 (Ulster and Scottish) Light Air Defence Regiment.

In 1990, the 102nd Regiment was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Newtownards followed by the freedom of Coleraine in 1992. Both honours have been passed down to 206 (Ulster) Battery as the only remaining subunit of the original Regiment.

In 2006, the Battery re-rolled from an Air Defence Battery to a Gun Battery and was equipped with four L118 Light guns (howitzers). The Battery has a headquarters and troop based in Newtownards and a second troop based in Coleraine.

Members of 206 (Ulster) Battery have been mobilised in support of the Regular Army on a number of different operations though they also carry out ceremonial duties and are tasked to carry out Royal Salutes throughout the year.
