PRESS RELEASE: Long Exposures – Kim Coleman at R-Space Gallery, Lisburn
Lisburn, Northern Ireland - 1st May 2026
For immediate release
R-Space is delighted to welcome artist Kim Coleman - daughter of motorcycle racing legend Tom Herron - back to Northern Ireland for her first solo exhibition in Ireland.
This new photography, light, and sound installation for R-Space gallery was developed from interviews with women in their late seventies who experienced a major European blackout in 2025. Reflecting on the project, Coleman notes: “I began thinking of the women I spoke with as sensory archives: people who have lived through mass electrification and ecological transformation, and the steady brightening of night. Their accounts hold both a collective history and each woman’s individual experience.”
About the artist
Born in Lisburn Coleman work has been widely exhibited, including at Nottingham Contemporary; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Tom of Finland House, Los Angeles; and Tate St Ives. She has also presented projects with Frieze London and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Coleman trained in Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art, gained her master’s degree at Chelsea College of Art and Design, and was awarded a PhD at the University of Reading. Beyond the gallery, she has worked with bands including Franz Ferdinand and Django Django — art school friends from her Edinburgh days - designing live stage shows incorporating set, lights and video. She has also created large-scale video projections for environmental campaigns with Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion.
