After being closed for 17 years, Hilden School was officially reopened by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council on 17 September 2025 following a £2 million restoration project in partnership with The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Resurgam Trust. It’s now a vibrant community hub, housing two new social enterprises: Little Weavers Daycare and The Tea Room at Hilden Mill.
Following on from the reopening of the school where we have installed an exhibition, we have also added a display about the school in the Rawdon Gallery of the museum. If you’re in Lisburn City Centre, call in to find out about the origins of the school, its connection to the Barbour family, and the Hilden School Refurbishment and Reinvigoration project. The display includes a selection of artefacts relating to the school’s history, such as an Honours Roll of pupil achievements that has recently been conserved by the museum.
Open Monday to Saturday, 9:30am – 5pm
